GOLF COURSE & GROUNDS SUPERINTENDENT

The River Bend Golf & Recreation Society is seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented individual with excellent communication and leadership skills to fill our Course & Grounds Superintendent position.

River Bend Golf & Recreation Area is a 420 acre public golf course and municipal parkland area with an 18 Hole, par 72 golf course and driving range, 9 hole mini-links course, water park, boat launch, biathlon range, picnic areas and hiking/cross-country ski trails located in Red Deer, Alberta.

The Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of the maintenance of the golf course and grounds. Reporting to the General Manager, the Superintendent will be a proven leader in the industry and will have had a successful track record in the areas of turf grass management, human resources and financial management.

The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:

• Certification in Turf Grass Management from a recognized educational institution
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in golf course maintenance
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory role
• Alberta Pesticide Applicator's License or the ability to obtain same within 60 days
• A working knowledge of golf facilities, construction principles and methods
• A working knowledge of irrigation system operations and water management
• Must have supervisory, purchasing, and financial management experience
• Experience in scheduling and application of pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers
• Ability to operate and maintain all equipment associated with golf course maintenance
• Experience with interviewing, hiring and scheduling of staff
• Strong and effective communication and leadership skills
• A thorough understanding of the game of golf
• Knowledge of Workplace hazardous Materials information System (WHMIS) and Operational Health and Safety (OHS) practices
• First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification an asset
• Valid driver's license

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and maintain annual budgets for the maintenance and capital improvement of the golf course and park areas.
• Plan and coordinate all maintenance and project work on the golf course and park areas to ensure a high standard.
• Train and oversee scheduling of Course and Grounds Maintenance staff.
• Manage purchases of maintenance equipment and supplies.
• Supervise the maintenance and repairing of golf course equipment.
• Report to the General Manager and work collaboratively with Department Heads and hourly employees from all departments.
• Respond to internal and external customer inquiries.
• Participate in long-term planning meetings.
• Offer professional opinions in the area of turf maintenance as requested by the General Manager and the Board of Directors.
• Perform other duties as required by the General Manager.
