Just two years after accepting his first assignment with the Professional Golfers Association of British Columbia, the Board of Directors has appointed 29-year-old Donald Miyazaki as Executive Director of the PGA of BC.
Right on Q the PGA Tour and Canadian Tour offered brief messages--remarkably short of tangible or useful information--regarding the immediate future of the Canadian Tour.
Because the Canadian Tour is broke, the biggest benefit to it will be an infusion of cash, which will understandably mean a voice in how the tour is being run.

Thanks to a bogey-free round of 6-under par 67, Vancouver's Henry Griffin moved from sixth place to first and won the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) Boys 16-19 division title at Eagle Creek GC in Orlando, Fl. this past weekend.

Tiger Woods returned to the winner's circle a week ago but his presence on the front page of the Canadian newspaper, The National Post, shows there are readers and golf fans in this country not that pleased to see this individual basking in the headlines and being welcomed back so readily after his shady personal life was made so public in 2009.

In a release this week from Vancouver-based Miura Golf, the Japanese maker of premium forged irons, wedges, putters and other high quality golf clubs, Miura has greatly expanded its dealer network in 2011, resulting in sales of the forged products rising nearly 50 percent in fiscal year to date.

According to a company release the sales of belly and long-shafted versions of the Boccieri Golf Tour-proven Heavy Putter have surged and accounted for 40 percent of revenue the past two months, thanks to the company's ability to quickly and easily convert any of its award-winning models to a custom length.

Right from the start of this season Adam Hadwin had his mind set on attending PGA TOUR Qualifying School, confident he belonged on the TOUR. After six rounds and finishing eight strokes behind the last Q-school qualifier he now has a whole year to reassess his phenomenal late season TOUR success and his disappointing visit to Q-school.

The leaderboard during round four of the PGA TOUR's final six-day Qualifying School turned into a game of musical chairs for the nine Canadian contenders with Ryan Yip of Calgary finding the best seat after a six birdie performance and a 5-under par 67 allowed him to skip from 107th place into a tie for 21st and 10 shots off the lead.

One stroke over a round of 18 holes can make or break you. It doesn't matter where it comes . . . on the first tee or the 18th green . . . just ask Brad Fritsch of Ottawa or Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, the top two Canadians engaged in competing at the final stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School.
While the Canadian Tour sways in limbo, a couple of its marquee members seem intent on graduating all the way to the PGA Tour.

Scott Dickson, Director of Golf at Vancouver's Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club for the past nine years, has accepted a new position as Director of Golf / Head Golf Professional with the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club in Ontario effective February 1, 2012.
Dickson was the host professional for this year's RBC Canadian Open and the Bell Canadian Open in 2005.

As a leader in the golf industry, the World Golf Foundation has included BC Golf News among the recipients of World Golf Foundation Links. For those new to this e-Newsletter it is distributed three times a year and focuses on an issue of importance to the industry by assimilating LINKS to articles from around the world on that subject. This month's topic focuses on the health and wellness benefits of golf.
With two rounds remaining five Canadians, including BC's Sue Kim of Langley and Kirby Dreher of Fort St. John, together with Stephanie Sherlock of Barrie, Ont., are all tied for 15th at 1 over par and within striking distance of LPGA membership at qualifying school in Florida.

Brad Fritsch of Ottawa and Abbotsford, BC's Adam Hadwin, two of nine Canadians at the PGA TOUR's final stage of qualifying school, turned Thursday's second round into their personal moving day by elevating themselves from well off the pace into the top 15 among the school of 173 players seeking employment for the 2012 season among the best golfers in the world.
