The morning after their greatest on field triumph of the season, the B.C. Lions boarded a bus from their Surrey training facility to take a painful ride to Christian Life Assembly in Langley.
They were going there to honour the sudden and tragic death of Dylan Reichelt, the 18-year-old twin son of longtime Lions' trainer Bill Reichelt and Cathy, who had been a team secretary before she and Bill married and had a family.

In 1988 Brent Franklin was a 23-year-old rookie golf professional when he captured the Canadian PGA Championship for his first pro victory. In 2010 he was a 45-year-old assistant women's golf coach at the University of Colorado when he was selected to be a member of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. Today, Franklin has no idea who has his Canadian PGA trophy and he's not holding his breath waiting to receive his Hall of Fame plaque. To Brent, it's the memories that count the most.

After playing for 36 holes without a bogey Victoria's Jim Rutledge found four of them Thursday in the third round of the Champons Tour final Qualifying-School, however, an eagle and a trio of birdies has kept him among the top three and just two shots off the lead heading into Friday's closing round in the hunt for a Tour card for 2012.

With six birdies over his final 10 holes for an opening round of 7-under par 64 former BC Amateur champion (2007) Mitch Gillis of Williams Lake, BC has claimed a share of first place in his Plantation, Florida class of the PGA TOUR's second stage of Qualifying School.

Canada's Jim Rutledge posted a 9-under par 62 for the lowest round he's ever scored over the many years he's been attending qualifying schools in hopes of earning playing privileges for either the PGA TOUR or Champions Tour and, at 12-under par with a two stroke lead through two rounds of the Champions Tour National Qualifying Tournament, he's first in his class for the first time ever.
In the Afamosa Resort's glossy brochure it describes course architect Ross C. Watson as being "renowned" which he certainly should be if the Rockies and Palm sets of nine holes are representative of the Australian's work.

Of the 77 players competing in the opening round of the second stage of the PGA TOUR's Qualifying School at the TPC Craig Ranch Course in McKinney, Texas, 58 players managed to break par including Canadians Chris Baryla of Vernon, BC and Calgary's James Love who are tied for sixth place and two strokes out of first place.
