Lindbjerg & Wilms - Winning Senior Titles Becoming A Habit

For the past three years Lindbjerg has found a way to claim the BC Senior Men's Amateur championship, tying Doug Bajus and George Barnes as the only three-time winners. He's now the first man to win three years in a row.

At Ledgeview Golf & Country Club in Abbotsford, Lindbjerg shot a closing round of 1-under par 69 and finished the 54-hole championship at (71-72-69) 212 to defeat runner-up Brock Waldron of Kelowna by 2 strokes.

"It's a huge relief to win - I think experience was the key. I've been here before so I know how to win and stay level," said Lindbjerg. "I'm the first to win three in a row and very proud of it. Today I told myself I was going to hang in there and just play one shot at a time and it paid off."

Earl MacPherson of Surrey, Brian De Biasio of Nelson and Real Gamache of Quesnel finished in a three-way tie for third at 7-over 217.

With his win Thursday, Lindbjerg will now captain the B.C. team going to the Canadian Senior Men's Championship at St, Thomas Golf & Country Club in St. Thomas, Ontario, August 30 - September 3. Members of BC's inter-provincial team will be Lindbjerg, Waldron, De Biasio and Gamache.

Ever since moving from Richmond to Delta and joining the Beach Grove Golf and Country Club, Wilms' game has progressively improved. He captured the 2006 PNGA Senior Championship and now has won the BC Super Senior Championship three years running. On two earlier occasions he finished as the Senior runner-up. Last year he was a member of BC's Canadian inter-provincial senior men's championship team.

This year Wilms came within two shots of shooting his age by posting a 1-under par 69 for a 54-hole total of 11-over 221 and broke into the top Ten in the field of 74.

"When I shot a 78 Wednesday I knew I wasn't going to make the BC Team so it was really important for me to make sure I won my third consecutive Super Senior's title," said Wilms. "At 67 I'm playing better golf than any other time in my life. It's a thrill to win."

Larry Lecomte of Richmond, finished in second at 15-over followed by Noel Pumfrey of Victoria at 20-over par.
