Jung came west to the national championship with confidence after winning the CN Future Links Ontario Championship, placing third at the Callaway Golf Junior World Championship and finishing in the quarter finals at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship while Choi has won the CN Future Links Quebec Championship, the Junior Boys Golf Classic and qualified for the U.S. Amateur.

"Fantastic is all I can say," said Jung. "I was just focused out there hitting fairways and greens and when I made a mistake I was able to recover pretty quickly."

"I hit it bad off the tee but when the ball was in play my approaches to the green were good," explained Choi. "I only had two bogeys today, so I think I got the most out of my round."

Rounding out the top three is Wilson Bateman of Spruce Grove, Alberta, who carded six birdies to finish with four-under par 68. Tied for fourth at 3-under 69 are Greg MacAulay of Stratford, PEI, Quebec's Raoul Ménard from Ange-Gardien and Scott Malo of Calgary

The Richmond club's long and narrow fairways, as they have so many times in the past, are proving quite a challenge for many of the players. including Jung who explained that they are long and difficult. Only 10 of the 155 competitors have broken par.

The top BC players following Tuesday's opening round are Curtis Chan of Richmond and Brian Jung of Coquitlam who are tied for 7th at one-under 71 with Nova Scotia's Ally Tidcombe of Wolfville and Eric Banks of Truro.

Sitting with a group at one-over par 73 is Callaway Golf World Junior champion Adam Svenson, who this season has won the CN Pacific Future Links title and both the BC Junior and Men's Amateur championships.

Defending Canadian Junior Boys and Juvenile Champion, Mitch Sutton of London, Ont., is tied for T27th at 2-over par 74. Sutton is also a member of Team Canada.

In inter-provincial team championship play, defending champion Ontario squad combined for a team-total of 214 (-2) to take a slim 6-stroke lead over Nova Scotia who came in at 220 (+4). Team Alberta sits third with 223 (+7).

In the Juvenile Division, Bateman leads with 4-under par 68; Curtis Chan of Richmond, B.C. is second with 1-under par 71; and tied for third are Jeremy Demers of Whitby, Ont., Austin Connelly of Lake Doucette, N.S., Matt Williams of Calgary, Kevin Ko of Coquitlam, B.C., and Development Squad member Adam Svensson.

The Canadian junior boy's champion earns an exemption into next week's Canadian Men's Amateur Championship.
