Canadians Advance to U.S. Women's Amateur Semifinal

Ontario's Jennifer Kirby of Paris and Stephanie Sherlock of Barrie, both members of Canada's National amateur team, have advanced to Saturday's semi-final round of the 110th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship held at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C.

Kirby defeated Kristen Park of Buena Park, Cal., in the quarter final round this morning with a score of 6&4, to advance against Danielle Kang of Thousand Oaks, Cal.

Sherlock edged out Junthima Gulyanamitta of West Lafayette, Ind., after going 2&1 in the quarter final round. She now faces Jessica Korda of Bradenten, Fla., in tomorrow's semi final.

Eight Canadians made it through 36-hole qualifying to the round of 64. Kirby was seeded 25th, Sherlock 26th.
