(July 28, 2010)
With a thrilling come-from-behind performance The West defeated The East for the first time in five years in the Canadian Junior Golf Association's annual East vs West Lipton Brisk Canada Cup.

Leading by a score of 5-3 and needing only three points to garner a fifth straight title the eight member East Team faced a determined team of eight westerns one-on-one in singles stroke competition. The West rebounded by taking six of the eight points available and scoring a 9-5 triumph.

"I knew we had it in us, we have been playing good golf all week and catching some bad breaks and it finally went our way today and I couldn't be happier and prouder" said Claudine Foong, Team West Non-Playing Captain.

"We knew that it was still anyone's tournament heading in to the singles matches and the West team simply played better golf today," explained Cory Jones, Team East Non-Playing Captain. "I have been very impressed with the calibre of golf that I have seen over the course of the week and wish all players the best of luck in the future" .

In the Boys 14 and Under Division Jack Wood of Banff, AB was able to pick up his first point of the week against Zackery Secord of Midland, ON beating him on the 17th hole 3&1.

Michael Pruss of Red Deer, AB was forced to forfeit his match to Brandon Raine of Caledon, ON as he fell ill this morning and was not able to play. This completed a clean sweep for Raine over the course of the week.

In the Girls Division Grace Howie of Calgary, AB was able to convert her 3rd point of the week by beating Karyn Lee Ping 7&5.

Winnie Hyun of Winnipeg, MB was also able to convert her 3rd point against Marlies Klekner-Alt of Ottawa, ON beating her in a close match that finished 2&1 in favour of Hyun.

Graeme Shadbolt of Oakville, ON was able to beat Scott Secord of Calgary, AB 4&3 getting the only point for Team East in the Boys 15-19 division.

Bradlee Jones of Vernon, BC was able to beat Amin Ashkar of Guelph, ON on the 16th hole 4&2 picking up his second point of the week.

Also converting his second point of the week was Jake DuVall of Victoria, BC beating Clayton Presant of Kingston, ON on the 14th hole 5&4.

The tournament then came down to the final match of the day where Team East had 7 points and Team West had 8 points. Travis Jenkins of Prince Albert, SK and Brett Geiser of Markham, ON battled back and forth all day in their match and went in to the 18th hole all square. The players were certainly feeling the pressure as both knew that the championship came down to this 1 hole. Travis Jenkins was able to win the hole and the match 1UP leading his team to victory.

"I knew that we would win if the match finished all square and Brett needed to play aggressively to try and win the match so I just had to put my ball in play off the tee and set myself up for an easy second shot" said Jenkins. He was able to do just that and cruise his way to a victory on the 18th green where he was greeted by his ecstatic teammates.
