SoCal Too Hot To Catch In Junior Americas Cup

Finding themselves in 10th place and eight strokes off the lead after the opening round may have been just the inspiration that was needed for a team from Southern California to rebound over the final 36 holes, shoot 24-under par and end up winning the 8th Annual Junior America's Cup by a whopping 13 strokes.
Against a field of 17 teams under a hot New Mexico sky where only the lowest three of four scores counted, the SoCal Juniors seemed to thrive in the heat at the par 71 Isleta Eagle Golf Club in Albuquerque. They took over the lead from the defending champions from British Columbia in round two with an impressive team score of 13 under par, then added to the margin in the final round to end up with a 21-under par total of 618.
British Columbia and Alberta shared runner-up honours at eight-under par while Oegon and San Diego tied for fourth at three-under.
On the individual side, Oregon's Zach Foushee strung together rounds of 70, 68 and 66 to sneak in under the wire as the tournament medalist with a three-day total of nine-under par 204 and a one-stroke victory. Wilson Bateman of Alberta and BC's Brian Jung tied for second.
The 2011 Junior America's Cup will be hosted in Mazatlan, Mexico.
