CANADIANS ON TOUR - Sunday, July 4

(July 5, 2010)
Larry Mize is a believer. He believes in his faith and, as he proved Sunday in the inaugural Montreal Championship, he believes in his ability to win on the Champions Tour.

The 51-year-old Mize won for the first time in nearly 17 years when he posted a final round of 8-under par 64 to finish at 17-under 199 and earned $270,000.

Top Canadian was Victoria's Jim Rutledge who came in T38 at 6-under 210

LarryMizeMtlChp300pix.jpg"Any time I had a complacent thought I told myself, 'Keep making birdies,'" said Mize, the 1983 Masters Champion. "You have doubt and you have to replace the doubt with belief in your ability. I just said, 'Continue to believe in yourself. You've put in the work and trust it.' Doubts are no fun."

A crowd of about 22,000 attended the final round, pushing the tournament total to 54,000 for an event that is guaranteed to return to Montreal for two more years.

Most successful professional Canadian on tour this week was Dustin Risdon of Calgary who enjoyed a two shot margin of victory on the Canadian Tour in Edmonton in the ATB Financial Classic. The victory was worth $40,000. That was $16,000 more than Langley's Adam Hadwin, who came in second and left with $24,000, his best pro payday ever.

Alena Sharp was another successful Canadian on tour this past week, placing T10th on the LPGA Tour's Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic
