Canada In The Junior Open Championship In Scotland

(July 14, 2010)
Canada's Kevin Kwon finished 20th and Alix Kong 43rd while competing over the past three days in a field of 128 teenage boys and girls from 77 nations in the sixth biennial Junior Open Championship at Lundin Golf Club, Fife, Scotland.

Kenta Konishi of Japan finished on top at 5-under par 211, four shots in front of Guillermo Pereira from Chile and Hyo-Joo Kim from the Republic Of Korea.

Both Kwon and Kong battled with the wind during Wednesday's final round, Kwon finishing at 234 and Kong at 245.

Paul Lawrie, the Open Champion at Carnoustie in 1999, offered a valuable tip to the players prior to the start of their tournament.

"To all competitors, I wish a warm welcome to windy Scotland! To those of you who have never been here before and might not know how to play in as strong a wind as we have had today, here's a little tip:

"Play the ball further back than you would normally have it in your address position, and hit it softly, not hard. That will keep it low, under the wind, which is what you need to do.
