Adam Svensson Closing In On A Wong Triple Crown

For two rounds, Svensson was forced to share the lead with UBC grad Cory Renfrew of Victoria. but today the 16-year-old from Surrey was bogey-free on the back nine and came in at 3-under par 68 to take over the tournament lead at 7-under 206

Yung Gu (Justin) Shin of Pitt Meadows shot 69 to take over second place at 5-under 208 while last year's junior champion, Riley Wheeldon of Comox, birdied his final two holes for a 68 to get into third place at 210 all by himself.

Darren Wallace of Langley (70) is five shots off the pace and alone in fourth spot while Charlie Hughs of Burnaby (68), Adam Cornelson (69) of Langley and Victoria's Bryan Toth (69) and Renfrew (74) share sixth place at 1-over par 212.

Defending champion Daniel Brown of Kelowna is 10th at 1-over 214.

Svensson is hoping to duplicate the amazing 2008 triple crown performance of North Vancouver's Eugene Wong who, after winning the BC Junior title, went down to San Diego to play at famed Torry Pines and returned home as the Callaway Golf Junior World Champion for boys 15-17. The following week Wong added the BC Men's Amateur mantle.

Svensson claimed the BC Junior title by six shots at Crown Isle Golf Club two weeks ago and last week won the Callaway World championship by one shot with a sensational birdie finish on the 18th hole.

The top two finishers Friday will join Wong and world amateur sensation Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, as BC's representatives in the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship at London Hunt/Redtail Golf Course in London, Ontario August 10-15. Wong and Taylor are guests of Golf Canada at this week's RBC Canadian Open in Toronto.
