History Repeats For Phyllis Laschuk

After an all-day see-saw battle with Kelowna's Palahniuk, the 2002 Senior Women's champion, Vancouver's Laschuk managed to tap in for a par on the second hole of a playoff to recapture the title she first won in 2003 in Revelstoke when she defeated Palahniuk, also in a playoff.

Trailing by two shots after two rounds, Laschuk closed with a 5-over 79 while Palahniuk posted an 81 leaving both women tied at 9-over par 231.

"It was 2003 all over again," said Laschuk. "My putting fell asleep today but I don't care, today was a good, special day. The course was exceptional to play - a real gem. I am really happy where I finished."

On the second day Laschuk also managed to tie the Summerland course record of 2-under 72, previously held by Palahniuk.

Karen Pultz of Surrey, who finished at 11-over 233, claimed third place followed by the defending B.C. Senior Women's champion, Alison Murdoch, who came in fourth at 13-over 235.

Murdoch also held on to win the Super Senior division at 13-over 235. Marilyn Moscovitch of West Vancouver, took second place at 25-over 247, five shots ahead of Beverly McGladery of Vancouver.

Laschuk, Palahniuk, Murdoch and first-time team member Pultz will now represent British Columbia in provincial team competition at the Royale Canadian Senior Women's Championship August 23-26, 2010 on Vancouver Island at Morningstar Golf Course in Parksville.

Following the second round of competition Vancouver Golf Club players, Rachael Carter and Marilyn Moscovitch, won the Club Team Net Competition while the Club Team Gross Competition was won by Victoria Golf Club's Carin Gallie and Alison Murdoch.

Murdoch and Penny Baziuk of Cordova Bay Golf Club, representing Zone 5, won the Zone Net Competition. The Zone Gross competition was won by Zone 4 competitors, Phyllis Laschuk of Point Grey Golf & Country Club and Holly Horwood of Shaughnessy Golf Club.
