Chris Maletis Captures PNGA Senior Title

(June 12, 2010)
With a dominating six stroke victory, Chris Maletis of Portland, Ore. has captured his second consecutive Pacific Northwest Senior Men's Amateur Championship title at Beach Grove Golf Club in Tsawwassen, B.C.

Maletis' final round of 1-over par 72 gave him a three day total of 3-under par 210 for his third PNGA Senior Men's Amateur title and fourth PNGA victory overall. In addition to this victory (June 10) his season already includes a win at the Senior Masters in April, and a semifinalist appearance at the PNGA Master-40 last month.

Finishing in second place in his first appearance at the PNGA Senior Men's Amateur Championship was Richard Jonson of Seattle, Wash. at 3-over par 216. One stroke behind in third place was Bob Burton of Everett, Wash. Rounding out the top-5 was Howard Broun of Calgary, Alberta at 5-over par 218 and Mike Jonson of Sammamish, Wash. at 6-over par 219. Mike Jonson also captured the Net title.

Ted King of Bellingham, Wash. beat Kwan Choo of West Vancouver, B.C. on their first playoff hole to win the Inaugural Pacific Northwest Golf Association Super Senior Men's Amateur Championship.

King, 13-over par 226 after his closing round of 5-over 76, held a five stroke lead with only two holes to play, but a double bogey, bogey finish and a birdie, birdie finish by Choo created a tie after 54-holes. King was then able to get up-and-down for par on the first playoff hole to seal the victory while Choo encountered problems in greenside bunker.
