It is not often that a golf course is sold by auction, but in case you missed it, the petite 9-hole Wells Gray Golf Resort and RV Park beside Hemp Creek near Clearwater, B.C., changed hands recently when a British Columbia bidder's offer of $950,000 was accepted.
According to Kim Schulz, corporate communication manager with Ritchie Brothers Auctioneers, sale of the Upper Clearwater tourist facility, one of 10 real estate properties in the auction, went to a BC resident who was present at the auction site in Chilliwack.
Reportedly, 1,900 bidders from some 20 countries, 26 U.S. States, nine provinces and two territories were registered for the auction, which also included the sale of nearly 1,200 additional items, such as heavy equipment.
Resort Course and RV Park owner, Barrie Clarke, opened the golf course in 1997 but decided to sell this year in order to retire.
The name of the new owner has not been revealed and it is not known when that owner will officially take possession.
