Swing by Swing displays the distance between location points on any golf course in the world. More than 8,500 courses are in the Swing by Swing system, with hundreds more added daily. Users can view a satellite photo of the hole they are playing, including the green and any obstacles in their path, such as water hazards and sand traps. By touching the screen, a golfer can view precise distance to anything on the course.

"This app helped me finally break a 90," said Chad Zummach, an early adopter of Swing by Swing. "I've always wanted a GPS range finder, but I never wanted to drop the cash. And this works better than my friends' expensive devices."

Using the free Swing by Swing range finder is easy. Simply select a course and tee off. If a golf course is not in the system, users can access the easy online mapping tool or have Swing by Swing map the course for $11.99. The application works no matter where you play and automatically switches between holes as you move around the course.

"Who needs a $500 range finder?" said Travis Giggy, co-founder of Swing by Swing. "Our goal is to offer golfers easy-to-use technology which helps them improve their skills and have a better time on the course."

A scorecard module is also available on iPhone for $11.99. A golfer can track their game like a PGA pro and keep score for up to four players. With the scorecard module, golfers gain access to analytics, such as the ability to track scores over time and keep statistics like greens in regulation, average putts per hole, scrambles and more. The BlackBerry scorecard is set to release early June.
