Jim Rutledge: Moving Up On The Champions Tour

(March 27, 2010)
JimRutledgehead72pix.jpgSitting nine shots off the lead at 2-under par 142, Jim Rutledge of Victoria, B.C. has moved up 10 places in the standings after two rounds of the Champions Tour's $1.6 million Cap Cana Championship being played in the Dominican Republic.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin, looking to put together three impressive rounds for the first time on the Champions Tour, shot a course-record 63 to take the lead after the second round with a 13-under par total of 131. He's a stroke ahead of Nick Price and two better than Fred Couples.

Rutledge, who must play his way into each Champions Tour event in Monday qualifying tournaments, is hoping to improve upon his tie for 40th place in last week's event in Florida.

With an even par round of 70 --- one birdie and one bogey --- in his opening round, Rutledge posted four birdies and a pair of bogeys Saturday to move up from 39th to 29 place after day one.

With virtually no wind for the second straight day, forty players were under par after 36 holes.

Couples' round of 66 marked his 11th consecutive round in the 60s, tying Price (2009) and Lee Trevino (1992) for third most in Tour history behind Hale Irwin's 13 in 1999.
