Only two international PGA stars remain to be named for this year's 18th annual TELUS World Skins contest scheduled for the Mountain Course at Victoria's Bear Mountain resort after it was announced this week that the 'King of Skins', Freddie Couples, and Columbian Camilo Villegas will join Canadian Golf Hall of Fame member Mike Weir in the made-for-TV event.
Villegas has one victory on the PGA TOUR so far this season, that being the Honda Classic. He was also the 2008 TELLUS Skins champion. Playing in his first season on the Champions Tour, Couples, a Masters champion and 15-time PGA TOUR winner, finished second in his first outing in January, but has since won three successive tournaments. He'll be playing in his 10th TELUS Skins contest and hoping to add to the $1.2 million he's won so far.
This summer's game, scheduled for June 21-22, will improve the quality of life for Vancouver Island's sick kids and their families for years to come. Money raised during the event will benefit the Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children in support of Jeneece Place, a home-away-from-home to be located near the Victoria General Hospital.
Tickets for the event on Vancouver Island, priced at $165 for a two-day pass, go on sale Monday, April 12 and can be purchased online by visiting www.telusskins.com or by calling 1-866-60SKIN1 (1-866-607-5461).
