In answer to a recent email requesting advice for entering an event such as the BC Men's Amateur Championship, scheduled for Castslegar Golf Club, July 20-23, BC Golf News presents the following official response from Susan White, Director, Rules, Competitions & Education, BCGA
"Players in the BC Amateur must either receive an exemption or qualify through their zone amateur or through our supplemental qualifier which takes place (July 18) the Sunday before the Championship. Each zone within the province is provided with a certain number of quota spots to issue to amateur players in their respective zones. The majority of these are issued to the top performers in the zone amateur.
The Supplemental Qualifier provides an opportunity for foreign or those players who were unable to or failed to qualify at the zone level to receive a spot into the Amateur.
Exempt players will have received an allocation into the Championship based on their prior performance or outstanding record. Top BC Amateur golfers attending college may also receive exemptions if they are unable to qualify at their zone due to collegiate commitments.
Zone qualifying and supplemental information is available on the BCGA website.
Both male and female players may play in the BC Amateur Championship."
