One of Canada's busiest municipal golf courses, an 18-hole par-67 jewel located in Saanich, near British Columbia's capital city of Victoria on Vancouver Island, has been loosing money for the past five years but tonight, despite the wishes of the club's 228 regular members and their advisory committee, green fees are expected to be increased and for the first time in over 50 years players will have to start booking tee times.

The game of golf does not make its return to the summer Olympic family for another six years, however, the Royal Canadian Golf Association is very much involved in the 2010 Winter Olympics that kick off today in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia. The first golfer to get the ball rolling was Abbotsford's Nick Taylor, the world's No. 3 ranked amateur player, a senior at the University of Washington, who participated in carrying the Olympic torch through his hometown this past Sunday.

Playing on one of his favorite courses, the often windy Pebble Beach Golf Links, Canadian Mike Weir produced a bogey-free round of five birdies with only 24 putts to wind up his first round at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am at 5-under par and tied for 5th place.

Playing on the CN Canadian Women's Tour will offer players far more than just experience in 2010 following an announcement by CN and the Royal Canadian Golf Association his week that Tour winners will now receive paid Exemptions into LPGA Tour Sectional Qualifying, receive Duramed Futures Tour eligibility and that six players will be offered spots in the 2010 CN Canadian Women's Open Championship.

It wasn't so long ago that the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) was cutting costs by reducing staff and eliminating tournaments as a means of reducing debt. Now, with two major corporate sponsors -- CN and RBC - on board and CEO Scott Simmons guiding golf's governing body in a new direction, the RCGA has announced that Remi Bouchard and Blair Armitage have been named the Association's new Region Directors of Membership Development.
