A Compilation Of News, Notes, Comments & Quotes

NickTaylorChipShot168pix.jpgUnless Canada's Nick Taylor turns professional between graduation this spring and the summer of 2016, when golf is due to return to the five-ringed circus in Rio de Janaeiro, the closest he's likely to get to being a part of the Olympic games will be on February 7 at 7 in the morning when he travels to Merit, BC to carry the Olympic torch some 300 metres as part of the journey toward Vancouver and Whistler where the winter Olympiad will be staged come rain or snow.

The chances of an amateur representing Canada in the summer Olympics would appear rather slim since we are now in an era where profession athletes are the rule of the day. More than likely, however, Taylor, who is currently the Number Three Ranked Amateur in the world according to golf's governing body, the R & A, and currently No. 15 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, will likely will be putting for big dollars by then, unless he pulls off a James Lepp and decides to design golf clothing instead of winning tournaments.

Taylor, a first-team All-American last year for the Washington Huskies, a former Canadian Junior and Canadian Men's Amateur champion, who was inducted into his hometown Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame in 2006, is looking forward to being one of the 12,000 torchbearers that will have carried the Olympic flame.

"It's cool. It's quite an honor to have the Olympics in Vancouver. I would have liked to run in my hometown but I had no control over that. I guess I'll just get a track suit, run and then go back to sleep."

Highlight of the seminar will be some time spent listening and watching world-renowned golf instructor David Leadbetter,
