Two rounds of bogey-free golf is a perfect way to start a new golf season and that is the story for Mike Weir after posting a second consecutive round of 67 for a 36-hole tally of 10-under par 134 and a share of 10th place at the rain plagued Bob Hope Classic in La Quinta, CA.
Weir, who won the Hope Classic in 2003 --the same year he won the Masters Championship-- is six shots back of front runner Bubba Watson, who recorded a 10-under 62 Friday --he was 7-under on his front nine alone-- and leads the pack by two at 16-under 128. Weir managed to complete Friday's round with only 27 putts.
Rookie Graham Delaet of Saskatchewan (71-69) is well off the pace at 4-under 140 and tied for 67th while Vernon, B.C.'s Chis Baryla (71-79), T123, may likely miss his second consecutive cut following Saturday's 3rd round.
Friday's round began and ended in a driving rain. The storm wiped out play on Thursday so Frioay the golfers hustled to finish their second round of the TOUR's only five-round, four-course tournament. After what's expected to be a clear weekend of weather, the final round will be played Monday.
