Perhaps it's the experience that made the difference. Stephen Ames was 5-over par after his first 11 holes in Thursday's opening round of the PGA TOUR event at Torrey Pines in San Diego but five birdies and no bogeys over his last 25 holes allowed the Calgary veteran to make the cut on the bubble for this weekend's Farmers Insurance Open.
D.A. Points of the U.S and Ryuji Imada of Japan shazre the 36-hole lead at 11-under par 133, two shots in front the field and nine strokes up on Ames who is tied for 50th after rounds of 74 and 68 .
The bubble finally burst for Weyburn, Saskatchewan's Graham Delaet who missed his first cut in three tournament this season because of problems staying in the fairway in the first round and putting in round two. The long driving power hitter who resides in Boise, Idaho posted a 2-under 70 on Thursday but Friday's 2-over 74 was his first tournament of the season wirh a round over par and at 144 caused him to miss the cut by two shots.
Chris Baryla of Vernon, BC is still looking for his first breakthrough of the season. Rounds of 74 and 75 left him well off track at 149, missing his third consecutive cut and a chance to cash in on a weekend payday.
