If Moe Norman were alive he'd probably be beaming with pride at what Canadian Mike Weir is doing at the Bob Hope Classic. Four rounds and all at 5-under par 67; so consistent he's almost predictable.
In his day Norman was considered the most accurate striker of the golf ball; his drives consistently finding their mark in the fairway, reaching the green in regulation with uncanny regularity. If only Moe could have putted with that same repetitive stroke.
Playing in his first PGA TOUR event of the season, Weir has recorded only one bogey in 72 holes while posting 21 birdies on the four Palm Springs courses (PGA West Nicklaus & Palmer, Silver Rock and La Quinta) that are being used for this unique five-round celebrity tournament. That puts the 2003 Masters and Bob Hope Classic winner three shots off the pace and tied for 6th going into Monday's final round.
Since his opening round of 71 rookie Graham Delaet of Weyburn, Sask., has now progressed up the leaderboard to where he is now tied for 28th at 15-under par 273 and just eight strokes behind the leaders, Alex Prugh and Bubba Watson. His last 36- holes have been bogeyless.
Fellow TOUR rookie Christ Baryla of Vernon missed the cut for his second tournament in a row, although Sunday's 2-under 70 was his best round of the tournament.
