PGA TOUR Qualifying School - First Stage, Part II

Part II of the second group of contenders at the PGA TOUR's Qualifying school has concluded at five of the six U.S. locations and so far five of the 16 Canadian players competing will join the rest of the Q-School contenders going into Stage 2 beginning next month.

There is one group in Latana, Texas that has a round to make up and a single Canadian may make the cut.

Leading the way this week was Victoria's Stuart Anderson who finished as the medalist in Hollistger, Ca., one stroke in front of Edmonton's Barrett Jarosch.

Some 37 Canadian Tour members and alumni advanced to the second stage.

At Pinewild C.C. in Pinehurst, N.C., Scott Gibson shot an even par 72 but it was enough for a seventh place finish and a ticket to second stage while the Canadian Tour trio of Brad Fritsch, Stephen Gangluff and Ryan Horn finished T-8 to advance.

Also advancing were Chang Hong (T-13), and Rolf Muntz and Ben Ferguson (T-15).

At Valdosta, Ga., Robert Gates fired a final round 68 to move to solo seventh and second stage while both James Love and Jason Allred finished T-8 to advance.

Also headed to second stage are Brad Heaven (12th), Andy Matthews and Yohann Benson (T-13), Shawn Jasper (T-17) and Christo Greyling (T-20).

In Lakeland, Fla., Tyler Harris managed an even par 72 after yesterday's 60 but his solo sixth place finish easily advanced him. Jim Seki (T-11) also moves to second stage.

At Hollister, Calif., Stuart Anderson shot his second consecutive 67 to capture first place by one over former members Jeff Wood and Travis Bertoni, and current member Barrett Jarosch.

Anderson finished at 13 under 275 but more importantly, moves to second stage.

Also advancing are 2008 Rolex Player of the Year John Ellis (6th), two-time winner in 2009 James Hahn (7th), Brady Stockton, Ryan Thornberry and Matt Marshall (T-13), and former member Philip Dawson (T-19).

Another Canadian Tour member - Brian Guetz - grabbed top spot in Santee, Calif., with a final round 72 to finish at seven under par 281.

Also advancing were Dan Buchner and Brett Lederer (T-4), Aaron Goldberg and John Douma (T-10), Brady Schnell (13th), Lucas Lee and David Hahn (T-14), and Bret Guetz and Jason Kang (T-19).

Round three at Lantana, Texas is complete with Michael Walton T-14 while Antonio Maldonado and Jamie Kureluk are T-17. Needing to make up ground in Saturday's final round are Kent Eger (T-25), Stuart Hendley (T-28), Chris Parra and Erick Justesen (T-33), Edward Loar (T-39), Chris Wall (T-45), Cesar Coello and Will Dodson (T-53) and Ryan Dillon (61st).
