Bryn Parry - - VGT's Vancouver Open Champion

BrynParryFaceVcrSun0915.jpgThe Vancouver Golf Tour came to a familiar close Tuesday with Bryn Parry of North Vancouver, BC winning the VGT Order of Merit money title and preparing for yet another visit to the PGA TOUR's fall Qualifying School.

With a 54-hole 12-under par score of 202 and a two-stroke victory over Phil Jonas, Parry earned $5,000 for winning the Vancouver Golf Tour's Vancouver Open Championship following three rounds over the Fraserview (66), Langara (65) and McCleery (71) Golf Courses.

Additionally, Parry's Order of Merit prize of $5,000US will cover his entry fee into the first of three qualifying stages next month for yet another attempt to win playing privileges on the PGA TOUR.

"That is what I have been playing for all year and obviously I'm very proud of myself and very excited about that opportunity and it just feels like as the season went on my game got better and better and I started to make some putts," said Parry in an interview with the Vancouver Sun's Brad Zeimer.

Last season Parry came up one putt short of advancing into the final stage of the TOUR's Q-School. Two years ago, playing as a member of the Nationwide Tour, Parry also came up one shot short in an early season playoff.

"I think everybody knows how important putting is in golf," Parry told Zeimer, "and I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to go and make a couple of more putts than I did the last time I went to Q school."

Jonas, who runs a teaching academy out of McCleery and south Surrey's Hazelmere clubs, incurred only two bogeys over 54 holes, both on par threes---the seventh at Fraserview on Sunday and the 17th Tuesday at McCleery---which helped him earn the $3,000 runner-up prize.

Many of the professionals and amateurs in the field expressed their pleasure with the conditions of the three Parks courses.

"I was impressed with them," said Parry. "It was a pretty entertaining tournament. Nobody had seen the courses enough to feel like they had home-course advantage. I'm impressed with Vancouver Parks Golf for stepping up and hosting an event."

Going into the Vancouver Golf Tour's final event of the season Parry had competed in 15 tournaments, winning three and sharing first place in another. Abbotsford, B.C.'s Adam Hadwin also won three times and tied once but only competed in nine events.

Hadwin will head to Florida next month to attend the first stage of the PGA TOUR Q-School while Parry will tee it up in Texas.
