With a blistering eight-under par 64, Rafael Gomez has moved to 16-under 200 heading into the final round of the Canadian Tour's Iberostar Riviera Maya Open with a sixshot lead.

Antonio Maldonado shot 65 to sit alone in second at 206, two ahead of Naniamo, BC's Darren Griff who posted a solid round of 67. Fall Q-School graduate Lindsay Renolds of Christina Lake, BC is in sixth at 211.

The day clearly belonged to Gomez whose opening bogey was barely a blip on the radar. He picked up four birdies on the front side and with birdies at ten and eleven, took control of the tournament. Holding a three shot cushion at No. 13, the Argentine birdied three of his next four to leave the field in his wake.

One of those he left behind was Griff, who finds himself eight strokes back.

"My goal tomorrow is to just play good golf," said Griff. "Rafael would have to come back to the field for me to have a chance. I'm just thinking about posting a good score on Sunday and making some money."

"I would say the driver was the key to my round. Although I was hitting my irons really well, if the driver isn't working, you end up roping shots around corners all day," added Griff.

Darren Griff teamed up with Stuart Anderson to represent Canada at the 2004 World Cup.
