Nicole McMillan - Named Players Cup Executive Director

The Canadian Tour has announced the name of Nicole McMillan as new Executive Director of one of the Tour's premier events, The Players Cup in Winnipeg, effective October 1, 2009.

Tour Commissioner Richard Janes has also announced the appointment of Rob McMillan, Nicole's husband, a past member of the Canadian Tour Board of Directors, as the Executive Chairman of the $200,000 Players Cup.

Nicole McMillan has been involved in event management for a dozen years.

Rob, who won the 1996 Canadian Amateur in Winnipeg, also won the Canadian Tour's Manitoba Open as an amateur that same year. As a professional he captured another two Canadian Tour titles and played the Nationwide Tour in 2001 and 2003.

"Manitoba has a long history of hosting major sporting events and this is an event that has always been well managed," said Janes. "Rob and Nicole share a vision and have the passion to make The Players Cup one of the most significant golf tournaments in Canada."

"This is an opportunity that Nicole and I really wanted. Nicole is an excellent event manager and I look forward to working with all of the sponsors. It is a good marriage in more ways than one," stated Rob McMillan.

Mitch Zalnasky who has been with the event as Tournament Director for the past ten years will be stepping down at the end of this year. Mr. Zalnasky was instrumental in making this tournament one of the premier events on the Canadian Tour and led its rebranding to The Players Cup when the tournament secured a Canadian Open exemption and purse increase in 2008.

Wes Heffernan of Calgary won the inaugural Players Cup in 2008. The Canadian Tour's leading money winner Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Saskatchewan won the 2009 tournament.

The Canadian Tour is a member of the International Federation of PGA Tours. More than one hundred Canadian Tour alumni have graduated to the PGA TOUR including Mike Weir, Steve Stricker, Tim Clark, and 2009 RBC Canadian Open Champion Nathan Green. The Canadian Tour operates ten events across Canada and an international schedule in Mexico, Latin America and the United States. The Canadian Tour attracts players from fifteen countries around the world.
