PNGAlogoBlk97pixels.jpgMike Haack could not have been more consistent enroutè to winning his first Pacific Northwest Golf Association title. The Bellevue, Washington native shot three consecutive rounds of 4-under par 68 to win the 25th Annual PNGA Men's Mid-Amateur Championship --- the only player in the field with three flawless rounds in the 60s and the lone contestant to break par each round during the 54-hole tournament at the Homestead Farms Golf Resort in Lynden, Wash.

At 12-under par 204, Haack finished three strokes ahead of Derek Berg of Kenmore, Wash., who had fired a scorching 8-under 64 in his second round. Berg now looks forward to playing in two consecutive USGA events, representing the Washington State Golf Association in the USGA State Team Championship next week in St. Louis, MO followed by the USGA Mid-Amateur Championship in Kiawah Island, SC.

Alone in third place was defending champion Ben Griffin of Victoria, British Columbia, the first round co-leader who ballooned to a 74 on day two but closed Thursday with a hot 5-under 67 to finish five shots off the pace set by Haack.

With a combined score of 11-under par on the back nine alone, Haack's victory caps off an impressive summer that includes winning Medalist honors at the U.S. Open Local Qualifyier in May and posting a top-10 finish at the Washington Open..
