Hale Brothers Claim PNGA Men's Senior Team Title

Fighting off a strong challenge from a British Columbia team, the combination of brothers Andy and Tom Hale from Washington prevailed to capture the 27th PNGA Men's Senior Team Championship in Bremerton, Wash.

Andy Hale of University Place, Wash. and his brother Tom of Lakewood, Wash. opened with a 6-under par 65 in the four-ball format on the Cascade Course and followed that up with an impressive 4-under par 68 in the second round on the Olympic Course in a Chapman format. In the final round the Hale brothers concluded their march to the podium with a 7-under par 65 on the Olympic Course in a four-ball format for a 36-hole total of 17-under par 198. Their bogey-free final round Thursday included birdies at holes #2, 3, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 15 to help create a 2-stroke victory.

BC Senior Champion Gudmond Lindbjerg of Port Moody and his partner John Gallacher of Burnaby started the final round 4-strokes back playing in the second to last group. However, they put the pressure on with a bogey-free round of 9-under par 63 for a three day total of 15-under par 200 and a runner-up finish. Lindbjerg and Gallacher combined to record five birdies over their final eight holes Thursday.

The PNGA Men's Senior Team Championship consisted of 54-holes of stroke play, gross and net competitions, with two-person teams playing on both championship layouts at Gold Mountain Golf Club (Four-Ball (Cascade Course), Chapman (Olympic Course), and Four-Ball (Olympic Course).

In the four-ball (round one and three), the partners play their own ball with the lowest score counting for the team. In the Chapman (round two), both players on the team tee off, then switch balls for the second shot, then select the better of the second shots then alternating until a ball is holed..

The PNGA Men's Senior Team Championships is one of 15 regional championships conducted annually by the PNGA. For more details visit www.thepnga.org.
