Third Round - RCGA Canadian Men's Amateur

The Ontario team, consisting of NCAA individual champion Matt Hill of Forest, Ont., Simon McInnis of Toronto, Brett Cairns of Courtland and Cam Burke of New Hamburg, combined for a two-round team-total 418 (206-212—418, -14), eight strokes ahead of BC.

“We’re thrilled to have won the team championship this year,” said Liz Hoffman, non-playing team captain for Ontario. “The team played well and they were consistent, especially given the challenges they faced with weather delays. We have a great team and I’m proud of their accomplishment here this week.”

Team British Columbia, consisting of Taylor of Abbotsford, Eugene Wong of North Vancouver, Daniel Brown of Kelowna and Brady Johnson of Mill Bay finished at 6-under par (213-213—426).  

Defending champion Alberta finished third, 9 shots back of B.C.  Mitchell Evanecz of Red Deer, Tom McKinlay Jr. of Lacombe, Wilson Bateman of Spruce Grove and Scott Stiles of Calgary combined to tally 3-over par (219-216—435).

The Inter-provincial Team Championship for the Willingdon Cup features four-member teams competing in conjunction with the first two rounds of stroke play with the best three of four scores counting toward the overall team total.

While the inter-provincial team competition may be complete, the third round of the individual competition was forced to carry-over into Thursday because earlier rain delays led to play being suspended due to darkness at 7:54 pm last night.

Defending champion Cam Burke, who was T3rd heading into Round 3, moved into sole possession of the lead at 9-under par. He was 4-under after carding five birdies and a bogey through 10 holes of his third round.

Third round action was to today at 7:30 am. The final round was scheduled to begin at 11 am Thursday with the last group teeing off at 1 pm. The field will not be regrouped following the completion of Round 3.
