Gudmund Lindbjerg - BC Senior Men's Champion

“This win feels really good,” said Lindbjerg, a member at Pitt Meadows Golf Club. “It’s very tough to defend and this course was a real challenge.  You really have to manage this course - you don’t just bang the driver every hole. I stayed calm and played well with the help of a great caddie.”

After earlier rounds of 72 & 73, Lindbjerg maintained his second round lead by shooting an impressive 1-under par 71 over the 6,488-yard course, five strokes in front of runner-up Bill Wilms of Delta.

Wilms, a junior hockey colour commentator for Shaw Cable TV and the Vancouver Giants, came into the tournament as the defending Super Senior Champion---players age 65 and over--- and a two-time BC Senior runner-up (1999-2006). Wilms began the final round in fourth place, three shots back of Steve Berry of Sooke, who started the day in second.

However, the turning point for Wilms came when he eagled the par-5 17th hole and Berry bogeyed the 18th, allowing Wilms, a member at Beach Grove Golf Club in Delta, to finish one stroke in front of Berry and gIving him his third senior career runner-up finish.

The defending Senior champion, John Gallacher of Burnaby, finished alone in fourth place at 8-over par 224.
 
In the Super Senior division, Wilms, with his five-over 221 total, handily defended the title he won last year in Castlegar, finishing nine shots up on Ron Petersen of Coquitlam. John Yasinchuk of Terrace, ended up alone in third at 22-over par 238.

With his win today, Lindbjerg, a member at Pitt Meadows Golf Club,  will captain the B.C. team that will take the Ferry to Vancouver Island at the end of the month to compete in the Inter-provincial Team championship during the first two rounds of the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship at Gorge Vale Golf Club in Victoria,

The B.C. Inter-provincial squad will consist of Lindbjerg, Wilms, Berry, a member of Glen Meadows GC and Gallacher, a member at Pitt Meadows.

The play of the day went to Patrick  Kelly of Vancouver, B.C. who carded an albatross on the par 5 hole #6.

In the 39-year history of the BC Senior, Ernie Brown (1973-74) and Doug Bajus (1981-82) are the only players to claim back-to-back titles; Bajus won a third title in 1985.

Lindbjerg was the Senior runner-up in 2004 and 2005.
