Jones managed to score three birdies to go with a pair of bogeys for his slim lead over defending champion Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody.

Jim Sutton of Cranbrook and Alan Defoe of Trail share third place at one-over par 73.
 
In the Super Seniors division, defending champion Bill Wilms of Delta, is tied for first with local favourite John Yasinchuk of Terrace at 3-over 75, four shots ahead of Ron Peterson who carded a 79. Martin Zlotnik of Vancouver and George Barnes of Kelowna share fourth at 11-over par 83.

Coinciding with the first two days of stroke play is the Zone Team Championship which has Zones 1 and 3 tied for the lead, three strokes ahead of Zone 5.
 
In the three weeks preceding the championship the Terrace region experienced record-breaking weather conditions with temperatures as high as 43 degrees and watering was restricted to greens and tees.
 
“Despite the extremes that we’ve endured over the last few weeks, the course is holding its own against this high-calibre of play,” says John Ross, Skeena Valley host club chair. “Our two ponds which are twenty feet deep reached an all-time low---so low in fact, you can see all the balls that have been lost over the past summer. It’s proving to be a true challenge of skills.”
