Trio Share TELUS Edmonton Open Lead

Victoria, BC veteran Jim Rutledge, looking for his first Canadian Tour win in 14 years, and Weyburn, Saskatchewan's Graham DeLaet, looking for his second Tour victory in two weeks, share the lead with American Brady Stockton heading into weekend action in the TELUS Edmonton Open.

Rutledge and DeLaet have each posted consecutive rounds of 67, while Stockton closed with a 69 after Thursday's opening round of 65 to sit at 10-under par 134, threed shots better than Liam Kendregan (71), Garrett Sapp (70), George Coetzee (70) and the duo of Barrett Jarosch and Yohann Benson had matching 67s.

“It was almost like two days today, because my putter was red hot the first 11 holes but then went ice cold,” said DeLaet. “I had birdie opportunities on every hole coming in; a lot of them were from inside ten feet.”

“I’m happy with today,” said Rutledge. “I missed a couple of short ones but it is a long tournament and those things are going to happen.”

Dropping two back with a bogey at 17 from two feet, the Victoria, B.C., native eagled his final hole from 15 feet to tie DeLaet and Stockton. “That was a 6-iron from 206,” said Rutledge, who had five birdies, an eagle and two bogeys.

Rutledge's long and storied career on the Canadian Tour began in 1979 when he won the first of his three BC Open titles. His last Tour championship was won in 1995 in the Montclair PEI Classic.
For Stockton, it was another day of scramble golf.

“I struggled here and there and was in the trees a lot, but I am happy with my round,” said Stockton, who hit just four fairways. “The putter was working well again but I have to get it in the fairway.”

“I think my caddie (girlfriend Stephanie Denick) is a little stressed. She was just following along, trying to find my ball all day.

A group of 70 players made the cut at one under par 143.

David Jackson shot rounds of 69-72 but neglected to sign his scorecard and was disqualified. He was T-12 at the time.
