Christina Spence Proteau of Port Alberni, BC is clinging to a one shot lead after two rounds of the British Columbia Women's Amateur Championship while stretching her lead to 13 shots in the Mid-Amateur Division being held concurrently at the Canoe Creek Golf Course in Salmon Arm.
Spence Proteau shot a 2-under par 70 for her 1-under 143 total, however, in close pursuit is Port Coquitlam’s Soo Bin Kim. Kim who fired a women’s course record of 4-under par 68 to elevate her into second place at even par.
Sue Kim of Langley is alone in third at 4-over 148 followed by Christine Wong of Richmond at 6-over while defending champion, Kira Meixner of Richmond shares a piece of fifth of fifth place at 7-over 151.
In the Mid-Amateur Championship, defending champion Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C. maintained her second place position at 12-over 156 while Karen Pultz of Surrey, has moved to third at 15-over 159.
Following Wednesday’s competition, the Zone Net/Gross and Club Net/Gross winners were announced with Swan-e-set Bay Resort Club players, Soo Bin Kim and Sandra Turbide, winning the Club Team Net Competition. The Club Team Gross was claimed by the Alberni Golf Club team made up of Jackie Little and Christina Spence Proteau.
From Zone 4, Phyllis Laschuk playing out of Point Grey Golf & Country Club and Holly Horwood playing out of Shaughnessy Golf Club took the Zone Net Competition. The Zone Gross competition was won by Zone 6 competitors, Jackie Little and Christina Spence Proteau playing out of Port Alberni Golf Club.
The top four finishers Friday will represent B.C at the Royale Cup Nationale Women's Amateur Championship at Royal Oaks Golf Links in Moncton, NB. July 27 – July 31.
