Michael Porco joins Tobiano's Award-Winning Team

As Director of Business Development, Golf Operations Porco will work closely with General Manager and Director of Golf  Mortensen and the Tobiano Sales and Marketing Team to establish the optimum membership structure, events, programs, and enhance the already industry-standard offerings at Tobiano.

“I am honoured to be joining the Tobiano team in this new capacity,” said the 38-year-old Porco, who was born and raised in Kamloops. “Having worked directly in the operations side for the majority of my involvement in the golf industry, this new opportunity with such a world-class facility has ignited an inner fire and has opened a fresh, new chapter in my career.”

Porco started his golf career at age 14 working summers at Rivershore Golf Club in Kamloops. As a junior player, he won five events on the Interior Junior Tour, played in the BC Junior, and was recruited by the University of Hawaii. After one year, Porco transferred to Washington State University where he was a four-year letterman award winner, and graduated in 1995 with a degree in Business Management. Upon graduation, Porco worked for two seasons at the Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, returning home in 1997 to join The Dunes at Kamloops. Earning his CPGA playing ability certification winning medallist honours, Porco was promoted to the Head Professional in 2000. From 2006 until taking on his new responsibilities at Tobiano, Porco held the position of Director of Golf at The Dunes.

In his new role, Porco will play an integral part in enhancing the evolution of this magnificent golf course and residential community on the shore of Kamloops Lake, and the role Tobiano plays within the Kamloops golf and tourism community.

“As we reach and surpass milestones and goals on the golf course and the community development at Tobiano, we continue to invest in talented personnel to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations,” added Mortensen. “We looked for a long time to find just the right person for this position, and Mike is a perfect fit. We are delighted.”
