One extra day and two extra holes and when it all came to an end, when the rain stopped falling and the sun finally shone on the RCGA and the PGA TOUR's RBC Canadian Open the winner, a former Canadian Tour champion, turned out to be from Toronto. But wait . . . he's not a Canadian, aye?

Nathan Green is a 34-year-old resident of Toronto . . .Australia, that is . . . .a small town named in honour of a Canadian rower that once visited the area.

Green spent three years playing the Canadian Tour. One of his three previous professional victories came at a tour stop in Sudbury, Ont., in 2000.

"This is pretty much the last thing I was expecting to do,'' said Green as he posed with his first PGA TOUR trophy between two ceremoniially-clad members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. (Photo: RCGA)

"To get my first win in Canada, where I spent a lot of years playing on the Canadian Tour, is a great way to have a first one.''

Green earned US$918,000 from the $5.1-million purse and jumped up to 43rd on the PGA TOUR's money list. He's now exempt on the PGA Tour through 2011 and will be extended an invitation to next year's Masters and it is expected he'll return to Toronto, Ontario next seaso to defend his Canadian Open title at St. George's Golf Club.

``It's just such a buzz for me to be able to turn the year around so dramatically,'' said Green. ``That's more than I thought I could have done.''
