A Soggy Glen Abbey Greets Canadian Open Entrants

Inclement weather has put a dampner on the first round of the PGA TOUR's RBC Canadian Open Championship at Glen Abbey in Oakville, ON and the chances of anyone getting 18 holes completed today seem somewhat remote. One forecast calls for heavy rain with a risk of thunderstorms.

It did stop raining around 8:30 a.m. (Vancouver Time) but because Glen Abbey took on so much water this week and today--three holes are badly flooded--it may take some time to get the course ready. It's possible the field could go back out late this afternoon.

American John Merrick, one of the early starters, managed to make birdies on two of the six holes he completed and currently holds a tenuous 2-under par one shot lead. John Daly is 1-under through two holes, Mark Calcavecchia is 1-over after two, Mike Weir and Sean O'Hair are even through three and Ian Leggatt is 1-over after one hole.

Only 52 from the 156-player field have teed it up so far.
