Kimberly Kim of Hilo, Hawaii has proven to be just too much for Canada to cope with in the 33rd U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship a Red Tail Golf Club, Devens, Mass. As a result no Canadians will be competing in Saturday's final.
When the tournament began at the start of the week with 155 players in stroke play Canada had six representatives. When match play began Wednesday two Canadians, Caroline Kim of Port Coquitlam and Sara-Maude Juneau of Quebec, had qualified for the opening round of 64.
Both ladies won their first matches; Kim 3&1, Sara on the second extra hole.
In the round of 32 Caroline Kim faced off against Kimberly Kim, who at age 14 in 2006 had become the youngest national champion in history when she won the U.S. Women's Amateur and was a runner up in this tournament. While Caroline had posted scores of 72 and 69 for 3-under par 141 and was seeded 7th, Kimberly shot a (77-70) 147 and was seeded 25th.
However, it was Kimberly who eliminated Caroline 2&1 to move on to the round of 32
Meanwhile, after being pushed to the 20th hole in her first round, Juneau scored a resounding 5&4 victory to advance to the round of 16, only to draw Kimberly Kim as her opponent. That match saw Juneau eliminated 2 & 1.
