Grob Celebrates Father's Day Early In South Surrey

After parring the first five holes, then recording five birdies over the next six holes, Grob parred his way home to a flawless 67 and finished  the event under sunny skies at 16-under par 272, two shots ahead of Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., who collected $14,000.

"I only made two bogeys all week," said Grob. “I bogeyed No. 1 the first day and No. 16 (Saturday). It was a special week for me. I played great and the putter kept me going. I made a lot of nice par putts when I needed them.”

Asked if this victory was more special than any of his others Grob responded: "Everytime you win it's special. You never know if it’s ever going to happen again,”

Mike Grob will be the first name engraved on the inaugural City of Surrey Invitational trophy which was presented to the champion and his daughter/caddy by Mike Stewart of West Coast Golf Group, owners of the host Hazelmere Club and Surrey Mayor Diane Watts.

James Lepp of Abbotsford, a two-time winner of this event (2007-03) shared third place at 10-under par with Yohann Benson of Montreal and Zach Shriver of Marysville, WA.

The biggest gain made during the final round was a jump of 31 places by California's Jeffery Rangel who wound up in 6th place after shooting a seven-under par 65, the same spot occupied by North Vancouver's Brynn Parry who jumped 21 places after posting a 5-under 67.

The longest drive of the afternoon undoubtedly was the 360-yard-plus bomb that Brad Heaven of New Zealand unleashed from the 18th tee,
