1st Round -- 45th PNGA Senior Men's Amateur

One of only two players in the field of 72 in the Grand Division to score under par, Maletis' final swing of the day produced the kind of shot that brings all golfers back to the course for another day—he eagled the par-five ninth to finish his round at 5-under par 67.

The only other player in the field to finish under par was Larry Daniels of Seattle, Wash. who shot a 1-under  71. Daniels sits alone in second place, while four others carded even par rounds of 72, including past champion, Kent Brown of Colville, Wash. and Burnaby, British Columbia's John Gallacher.

In the Open Division, Richard Cardwell of Lakewood, Wash. leads by 1 after carding an opening round 1-over par 73. Johnny Everett of Boise, Idaho sits alone in second place after shooting his age, a 2-over par 74.

The PNGA Senior Men’s Amateur Championship is one of 15, major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors, and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
