Victoria (Jisu) Choi, a 17-year-old from Langley, British Columbia, was a co-medalist in a qualifying tournament in Portland, Oregon Thursday and has earned a spot in the United States Women's Amateur Public Links championship next month.
Choi shot 7-over par 79 at the 6,143-yard par-72 Heron Lakes Great Blue Course in Portland to tie with 17-year-old Sharon Shin of West Linn, Ore.
Both will now play in the 33rd U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship June 22-27 at Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, Mass.
Last month Choi, a member at the Redwoods Golf Course in Langley, finished sixth in the RCGA's CN Future Links Pacific Championship at Morningstar Golf Club in Parksville, BC.
Entries to the U.S. Women's Public Links Championship are open to amateur female golfers who since January 1 have been bona fide public course players and have not held privileges of any course which does not extend playing privileges to the general public or privileges of any private club maintaining its own course.
The U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship began in 1977 and is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
Michelle Wie became the youngest champion in the 108-year history of United States Golf Association adult championships when she won the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links at age 13.
