The British Columbia High School Golf Championships, the only provincial sporting event where boys and girls compete together as teammates, crowned two champions Tuesday as winners of the "A" and "AA" BC Fresh Egg Cup Secondary School Championships.
Meantime, Thomas Haney Secondary in Maple Ridge has the first day lead in the 36-hole “AAA” Championship at Chilliwack Golf & Country Club with a 291 team total, one shot ahead of Glen Eagle in Coquitlam.
In the "A" division at Royalwood Golf Course, Maple Ridge Christian took its first title with a two day total low gross best-four-out-of-five score of 644. Immaculata in Kelowna finished 10 strokes back at 654 followed by Vancouver's West Point Grey Academy in third at 675.
Daniel Bismeyer of MRC took home medalist honours with 2-over par 146, 8 strokes ahead of Christian Pomerleau of Immaculata. Sean Gill of West Point Grey Academy carded 11-over 155 for third place while Jonas Montgomery of Princeton rounded out the top four at 16-over 160.
Also at Royalwood in Chilliwack, the five-member squad from St. Thomas More Secondary School of Burnaby won the "AA" title for the second year in a row. The team scored a low gross best-four-out-of-five tally of 632, 24 strokes ahead field.
Host school G.W. Graham in Chilliwack captured second place after a play off with Kalamalka in Vernon and Brentwood College in Victoria.
Lucas Gatto of Burnaby, claimed the individual title with a 36-hole total of 8-over par 152. Bryce Dahlen of Kalmalka finished second at 9-over 153 followed by Michael Belle of St. Thomas More and Shaye Crncic of Kalmalka in Vernon.
The "AAA" final winds up today with a shotgun start at Chilliwack G&CC. While Thomas Haney Secondary of Maple Ridge leads Glen Eagle of Coquitlam by one shot, Earl Marriott in Surrey sits in third place, three off the pace at 294 followed by Terry Fox in Port Coquitlam at 298.
Adam Svensson of Earl Marriott, Justin Shin of Thomas Haney and Justin Hyun of Terry Fox fired 4-under par 67 for a three way tie for first. Sunny Li is alone in 4th at 2-under par 69 while Christine Wong of McMath and Aaron Pauls of Sardis share fifth at 1-under 70.
