The 4th Annual PNGA Cup, a Ryder-Cup style championship staged over three days by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, will get underway Thursday in the golden Highlands of Boise, Idaho at Crane Creek Country Club.
By TROY ANDREW
PNGA Assistant Executive Director & Senior Director of Communications
In 2008, after three rounds of highly competitive match play golf, defending champion Oregon Golf Association and the Washington State Golf Association found themselves in a deadlock. A thrilling playoff left Washington State Golf Association, led by honorary captain and WSGA President, Sharon Johnston, victorious at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at Pronghorn in Bend, OR.
Each 12-member team from the British Columbia Golf Association, the Idaho Golf Association, the Oregon Golf Association and the Washington State Golf Association consists of eight men and four women. The representation includes four men mid-amateur's of 25 years of age or older, two men at 40 years or older, two senior men of 55 years or older, two women-mid-amateurs of 25 years or older and two senior women of 50 years or older.
The format will be four-ball and foursome matches the first day and single matches on the second and final day. Each player will play a total of three matches and the championship format will allow for each competitor to compete against players from each of the other associations.
"We are looking forward to another highly competitive event," said Dr. Jack Lamey, a member of the PNGA Board of Directors and founder of this event. "Bringing together the best players, and association representatives from around the Pacific Northwest has proved to be a very positive experience the last three years, and has also created new friendships and camaraderie amongst all the teams".
