Matt Hill, latest golfing sensation from Brights Grove, Ontario, with seven collegiate victories in his sophomore season at North Carolina State, was a medalist in local qualifying in Detroit Monday for the 2009 U.S. Open to be held June 18-21 at Bethpage State Park's Black course in Farmingdale, N.Y. Hill shot two-under-par 70 at the Red Run Golf Club.

Canadian Tour rookie James Allenby shot a 4-under-67 Monday at the U.S. Open qualifying tournament at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Oregon. to take medalist honors. Allenby, earned one of six spots available for the 36-hole sectional on June 8 at the Tumble Creek Golf Club in Roslyn, Wash.

Pepperdine freshman Jessica Wallace of Langley, B.C. shot 79 and tied for 79th place in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships Tuesday in Owings, Md.

From 4 pm to 6 pm each of the next two Saturdays (May 23 & 30) Canadian PGA instructors from the Golf BC Golf Academy will provide free 10-minute swing tips to all guests. The 4th Annual GolfBC 'Free Lesson Month' clinics are being held at Mayfair Lakes, Richmond; Nicklaus North, Whistler; Furry Creek; Olympic View, Victoria; Arbutis Ridge, Cowichan Valley and at Gallagher's Canyon, The Bear, the Quail and the Pinnacle, all in the Okanagan Valley. Since its launch in 2006, more than 700 golfers have taken part in "Free Lesson Month," which includes complimentary practice balls and equipment.

The PGA of BC, the same association that last week announced that Nuestra Familia Cigar Co. was now the official cigar provider of the PGA of BC, has this week announced that that Fitcorps Fitness Inc. has become the Official Fitness and Mental Game Specialists of the PGA of BC.
"Nuestra Familia cigars represent a sophisticated, premium product that complements the leisure lifestyle of golf. We see it as a comfortable fit for our association and members," said PGA of BC Executive Director Brian Butters of the association with the cigar company.
Fitcorps Fitness Inc., based in Port Coqauitlam is a multidisciplinary fitness company that focuses on the integration of mind, body, and spirit for total body health with clients around the world.

Barrie McWha, whose career as a teaching golf professional and administrator is highly respected and his reputation as a champion curler is well documented, has now been granted Canadian PGA Life Member status. Since the beginning of the year McWha has been hard ast workat hisotheer passion as the curator of the BC Golf Museum and Hall of Fame of Golf.
