2009 is starting out to be a banner year for members of the British Columbia Golf Association. Last week BCGA president George Faithful and Executive director Kris Jonasson escorted a team of eight men and four women to Crane Creek Country Club in Boise, Idaho to play in the 4th Annual Pacific Northwest Golf Association PNGA CUP and they returned home the overwhelming victors. BCGA finished the Ryder Cup style competition 5 ½ points in front Oregon. Washington State came in third and Idaho fourth.
The women team members included Mid-Amateur's Kim Evans of Terrace and Christina Spence Proteau, Port Alberni and Senior's Jackie Little of Port Alberni and Alison Murdoch, Victoria. The men's side included Mid-Amateur's Craig Doell of Victoria, Ben Griffin, Victoria, Bryan Toth, Victoria and Sandy Harper, Nanaimo; Master-40's Norm Bradley of Kelowna and Mike Mannion, Gibsons together with Senior's Brian Alexander of Burnaby and Ken Thompson, Nanaimo.
In Bellingham this week, a pair of promising 17-year-old BCGA stars of the future, Sue Kim of Langley, and Pamela Burneski of Surrey, captured the 10th WSGA Women's 36-hole Best-Ball Championship at Bellingham G&CC over a field of 45 two-member teams.
Burneski and Kim shot an opening round of 2-under par 70 to lead five time champions, Leslie Folsom and Jane Harris of Rainer Golf and Country Club by two shots but it was a Burneski birdie on the final hole on day two that helped the BC girls finish tied with another best-ball round of two-under par 70 and claim the overall Best Ball title.

The BC Golf Museum celebrated its 20th anniversary on May 6. A gathering historians, some who have made history and some who have kept history alive through their avid support in so many ways, met to toast the accomplishments of those who have given so generously of their time and resources in restoring and maintaining the history of golf in British Columbia
Among the original volunteers, Michael Riste, Dick White and Harry white, were members of the Golf Hall of Fame of BC, many patrons of the Museum and members of the media.
Following a luncheon served by the University Golf club staff, featured speakers included Sylvia Mellish, president of the BC Golf House Society, former Executive Director Dorothy Brown, Historian Michael Riste and current Executive Director, Barrie McWha.
After the program, Hall of Famers Johnny Johnston, John Russell, Doug Roxburgh and Wayne Vollmer took turns hitting a 'feathery ball' with a vintage 1700's wooden shafted track iron to the delight of spectators and guests assembled in front of the museum, which is located at 2545 Blanca Street at the intersection of West 10th and Blanca, right behind the seventeenth tee of the University Golf Club.
