Rumour Has It Shaughnessy Will Host Canadian Open

What better way could there be to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vancouver's venerable Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club than to host the 102nd edition of the RBC Canadian Open in July 2011.

The Royal Canadian Golf Association has announced a national media teleconference will take place on Wednesday when the site of the 2011 tournament will be revealed. On hand will be Scott Simmons, RCGA Executive Director, Jim Little, RBC's Chief Brand and Communications Officer and Open Tournament Director Bill Paul of the RCGA.

"The only thing I can confirm at this time is that I have nothing to confirm," said Scott Dickson, Shaughnessy's Director of Golf, "The club has been extremely busy making preparations for a season of celebrations and a special book is nearly completed now."

The last time the RCGA and the PGA TOUR paid a visit to western Canada was in 2005 when veteran Mark Calcavecchia won the Bell Canadian Open at Shaughnessy. At the end of that season the PGA TOUR players voted Shaughnessy as their favorite course of the year. Many in the field expressed a desire to return and also to play more of the classic old style courses like Shasughnessy.

Celebrations are the order of the day for this year's 100th Canadian Open scheduled for July 23-26 at the Jack Nicklaus designed Glen Abbey Golf and Country Club in Oakville, ON.

The following season the St. Georges Golf and Country Club in mid Toronto will host the 101st RBC Canadian Open.
