One shot behind at 68 are Canadians Peter Laws of Mississauga, ON, former BC Amamteur champion Mitch Gillis of Williams Lake and Lethbridge, AB;s Mike Mezel along with Americans Cody Slover, Mike Sica, Eugene Smith, Daniel Im and defending champion John Ellis.

Two strokes off the pace are Rob Grube, California Q-School winner Aaron Goldberg, Chris Wall, Jon McLean, Andy Matthews, Tom Stankowski, Brian Benedictson, Fall Q-School winner Robert Gates and Calgary native Wes Heffernan.

Starting on the back nine, Hawley eagled his second hole of the day from the fairway to quickly move to two under before giving one right back at the next hole. Three birdies at his next four holes had him at four under on his round but a double-bogey at his eighth followed by a birdie saw him turn in 33. He then scattered three more birdies and a bogey on his inward nine.

Speirs had it to four under through 16 holes until his first bogey at No. 17, however, he bounced back with an eagle at the par-5 18th to grab a share of the lead.
