Matt Hill Climbs To A Record 3rd NCAA Title

North Carolina State sophomore Matt Hill, a 20-year-old native of Bright's Grove, ON, and a member of Canada's National Team, captured his third career college tournament Monday, winning the 2009 General Jim Hackler Invitational at the TPC of Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

The only player to finish the event under par, Hill won by a convincing three strokes, shooting (74-70-69--213) three-under par and leading his Wolfpack team into second place. Wake Forest took home the top team honors, finishing at 17-over (881).

The win gives Hill an impressive three wins in his first 17 National Collegiate Athletic Association career tournaments. He also becomes only the seventh golfer in North Carolina State school history to win at least three tournaments during his career. Last spring, Hill won the Hootie at Bulls Bay and this past fall he won the Hawks Invitational.

This past fall, Hill made history when he became the first Canadian ever to be ranked as the #1 NCAA Men's Player by GolfWeek. He's currently ranked 14th, but will undoubtedly move up with this win.

In addition to Hill's 2009 NCAA schedule, he'll also compete as a member of the Royal Canadian Golf Association's Team Canada, teeing-it-up against the world's best amateurs at the British and Canadian Amateur Championships, as well as the Four Nations Cup.

More information about Team Canada and the National Amateur Team program is available on line at www.rcga.org/teamcanada.
