In the recently released state-by-state list of Golfweek Magazine's 'Best Courses You Can Play' in the U.S.A., it's not surprising that the magnificent links-styled Chambers Bay at University Place is number one among Washington State courses and the U.S. Golf Association's choice for the site of next year's U.S. Men's Amateur and the 2015 U.S. Men's Open Championship.
An hour's drive from Seattle, Chambers Bay is a Robert Trent Jones II masterpiece located just 20 minutes from Tacoma, in Pierce County, with snow-capped Olympic Mountains rimming the western shore of this coastal setting beside the windswept waters of the Puget Sound. Chambers Bay was certified on August 14, 2007 by Audubon International as a Silver Signature Sanctuary, the first golf course in the state of Washington and in the Pacific Northwest.
Among the four members of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, three courses from Brandon top the Oregon list of 'Best Courses You Can Play' while Circling Raven Golf Club in Morely, an award-winning Amenity of the Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort & Hotel complex in the Idaho panhandle near Spokane was selected Number one in Idaho.
Golfweek Magazine did not include British Columbia courses in their latest release, however, since BC is an integral part of the PNGA, BC Golf News did commission an independent panel that chose West Vancouver's private jewel, Capilano Golf & Country Club, as the Number One course in the province. Capilano has been selected once again to host the prestigious Pacific Coast Amateur Championship in 2013.
