BCGA's AGM To Reveal Membership Increases

For the first time in the history of the British Columbia Golf Association a provincial championship will be staged in Terrace in the BCGA's north western region known as Zone 7 at the Skeena Valley Golf Club.

"The BC Golf Association is very excited about featuring the Senior Men's Championship in Terrace," says Kris Jonasson, executive director of the BCGA. "It provides a unique opportunity for this beautiful part of the province to be highlighted for its quality of golf - it generates terrific excitement in the community and leads to greater popularity for the sport in the area."

Included on the agenda will be Scott Simmons, Executive Director and CEO Royal Canadian Golf Association who will address the RCGA's Strategic Vision followed by Jonasson outlining the BCGA's Programs and Services.

The BC Amateur is making its first appearance at Duncan Meadows Golf & Country Club - home to the 2006 CN RCGA Women's Tour; 2005 RCGA University & College Championship; 2004 RCGA Club Champion's Championship and the 2001 BC Junior Championship and 1999 BC Men's Mid Amateur

On this season's calendar the BC Men's Senior championship will staged at Skeena Valley GC August 11-13, three weeks before the RCGA stages the Canadian Senior Men's championship at the Gorge Vale Golf in Victoria.

With continued sponsorship from the BC Egg Marketing Board for the BC Secondary School Championship, the championship season will kick off with the BC "A", "AA", "AAA" Fresh Egg Cups May 24-27 at Royalwood in Sardis and Chilliwack Golf & Country Club in Chilliwack.

Kicking off the first of 3 championships in Pitt Meadows, the Senior Women's Amateur will be held at Meadow Gardens Golf Club.

Hosting a provincial event for the first time is the newly opened Canoe Creek Golf Course when they welcome the Women's Mid-Amateur and Amateur Championships.

Pitt Meadows Golf Club will see its eleventh provincial championship when the Junior Boys' take over the course. Nearby, the Junior Girls will run concurrently at Golden Eagle South Golf Course.

The BC Amateur is making its first appearance at Duncan Meadows Golf & Country Club - home to the 2006 CN RCGA Women's Tour, 2005 RCGA University & College Championship, 2004 RCGA Club Champion's Championship and the 2001 BC Junior Championship and 1999 BC Men's Mid Amateur

Rounding out the season, the Senior Men's will tee off mid-August followed by the BC Bantam at the Hope Golf & Country Club and the Juvenile Championships at the Fort Langley Golf Course.

The 2009 season will again feature an official partnership between the BCGA, Canwest newspapers The Province and Vancouver Sun and Burnaby-based Global TV.

A total of 30 minutes is being set aside for the Annual General Meeting during which it will be resolved as an Ordinary Resolution that the British Columbia Golf Association increase membership dues by $2.00 per member commencing with the 2009 season. Membership Fees in the BCGA for 2009 shall be:

A form of proxy:
Special Note: A Delegate may vote by proxy at a meeting and may appoint a proxy on the form supplied to them, or in any form that the Chair shall approve. Proxy forms must be filed with the Executive Director, not less than 24 hours prior to the time of the meeting. Deadline for Proxies is: 11:00am Pacific Standard Time, March 27, 2009.

Following the AGM will be a luncheon and then a 9-hole shotgun round of golf.
